The Espana boasts a fantastic location just off the Ramblas, so provides a great base for those who want to be in the hive of activity. Although the hotel is a simple 2-star, the building itself has some stunning historic features. The rooms and facilities are very basic but clean, and best suited to budget travellers looking for functional accommodation with a good location.
The Espana hotel was designed by a leading architect from the modernista movement. The hotel boasts an interior with historical art nouveau murals, elaborate woodwork, ceramic tiles and mosaics all with listed protection. The rooms offer simple, basic and functional comforts. All rooms have telephone, air conditioning and central heating. Twin rooms or rooms with a double bed all have full bathroom en suite. The Espana hotel was built in 1865, and has a total of 80 rooms spread over 5 floors. The hotel's facilities include a foyer with 24-hour reception, safe, lift and an à la carte restaurant. The hotel has a stagering total of 3 restaurants for you to enjoy anything from a cosy dinner to a banquet for up to 200 people in the reception room decorated by the modernist artist Ramón Casas, illuminated with natural light through the glass ceiling. Enjoy the exquisite international cuisine, with fresh produce from the nearby La Boquería market and a selection of wines to fulfil all your expectations.
